About Us

Who we are

Artwork Vietnam is a collective of painters, wood sculptors and clay sculptors in Ho Chi Minh City. We grouped together for three reasons: to be stronger than any of us alone, to learn from each other every day, and to give students and novices a place where the craft is taught by senior artists.

Most of us would describe ourselves as people who love making things. The website exists so that our paintings can travel, and they do: they hang on walls in many countries.

Why a group makes better work

A painter, a wood sculptor and a clay sculptor each know things the others do not. Under one roof they trade it: how a colour changes in raking light, how a joint holds under the weight of a large canvas, how form and shadow work together.

That is the practical meaning of strength in numbers for us. A problem that would stall a lone artist is easier to solve with colleagues at the next table.

Seniors make your piece, newcomers learn beside them

The workshop has two layers. Students and novices come to learn, and senior artists teach them, at the easel and at the wood bench. A senior artist makes every painting a customer orders, by hand, in oil on cotton canvas. Our painters include Ngoc, Tuan and Ngan. Newcomers work beside the seniors and learn the craft from them, which is the reason we keep the group open to people who are just starting out.

The subjects we keep returning to

Vietnam is what we paint most: terraced rice fields in early haze, lotus ponds, street stalls at dusk, a woman's portrait in strong light. We live with these scenes, so we know what the colours are when the air is humid and what a market lane looks like at six in the morning.

Over the years the painters of this collective have painted thousands of canvases. That practice is what you see in a patch of green that is mixed from several colours instead of one, and in a face where the light falls the way it would in life.

Why we send our work out

Making a painting is half of the pleasure. The other half is knowing it will hang in a room in another country, in front of someone we will probably never meet. We ship worldwide, and the more places the paintings reach, the more reason we have to keep the collective growing.

We care about the subject and we care about the sending. A painting of a Vietnamese rice terrace should arrive in good order, rolled, stretched or framed as you chose, and look the way it did when the artist put the brush down.

Frames from our own wood bench

Our own woodworkers, part of the collective, make every wooden frame and stretcher bar we use. A canvas ordered stretched goes on bars cut for it, and a frame is joined to suit the painting that will sit inside it.

What you see before anything ships

When your painting is dry and finished we take a photo and send it to you. If a colour is not what you imagined or a detail needs to change, tell us. The artist makes the correction, and the painting leaves only after you have looked at the photo and said yes.

Delivery, returns and the company that sells

UPS or DHL brings the parcel to you at no charge, with tracking. Our 100 % satisfaction guarantee is plain: if the painting is not right for you, send it back within 30 days and the full price is refunded. You pay the return shipping; the shipping and returns policy gives the steps.

Purchases are made from Fluixo LLC, 1209 Mountain Road Pl NE, Ste N, Albuquerque, NM 87110, United States. The legal notice sets out the company details.
