Why our oil paintings are different

Painted by hand.
Framed by our woodworkers.

Your oil painting is only started once you order it, and one of the collective's senior artists paints it by hand in Binh Thanh, Ho Chi Minh City.

The archival canvas print shows the same image, printed rather than painted, so its surface is flat. Both versions come rolled, on a wooden stretcher, or framed.

Painted to order
Every oil painting order goes to one of the collective's senior artists.
Frames made in-house
The collective's woodworkers make the stretchers and the frames.

About this painting

The story behind this artwork.

A rowboat on gold water below rust-red girders

Figures in a small rowboat with oars share the river, one of them in a red top. Above them runs a steel truss bridge in rust red, held up by thick piers, and green trees line the bank in the distance.

The water takes the light as soft golden yellow, with pale cream patches in the ripples. The bridge girders and the red top are repeated in the reflections below the boat. The brushstrokes are loose and visible, especially in the water.

Cream or sand walls suit the golden water

Golden yellow, rust red and olive green sit best on cream, warm white or soft sand walls, where the water blends in and the girders stand out. The wide landscape format suits a living room above a sofa, where the long line of the bridge can run along the wall.

FAQ

Which part of the scene catches the eye first?

The figure in a red top is the strongest small accent, set against pale golden water. The rust red girders above come next, so the eye moves from the boat up to the bridge and along its length.

What colour is the sky behind the bridge?

The top of the picture is a cream-yellow wash with a few pale blue strokes. Most of the scene is bridge, trees and water.

What are the trees along the bank like?

They are painted as olive green masses with warm yellow patches, in loose brushstrokes. They sit between the bridge and the water and soften the line of the far bank.
