Why our oil paintings are different

Painted by hand.
Framed by our woodworkers.

Your oil painting is only started once you order it, and one of the collective's senior artists paints it by hand in Binh Thanh, Ho Chi Minh City.

The archival canvas print shows the same image, printed rather than painted, so its surface is flat. Both versions come rolled, on a wooden stretcher, or framed.

Painted to order
Every oil painting order goes to one of the collective's senior artists.
Frames made in-house
The collective's woodworkers make the stretchers and the frames.
Photo before shipping
You see the finished oil painting and can ask for corrections.

About this painting

The story behind this artwork.

A yellow ao dai among rust-orange girders

The iron frame of the bridge fills the picture, its crossbeams repeating and shrinking toward a distant end. The girders are rust orange with darker brown edges, and the tracks below run the same way, drawing the eye along the sleepers.

A figure in a yellow ao dai and a conical hat is the one bright garment among the iron. Loose, visible brushstrokes shape the sky, which shows blue with white clouds between the beams, while buildings and green trees sit softly in the distance.

Warm iron against sky blue on your wall

Rust orange and sky blue are opposites, so each makes the other stronger, and the yellow ao dai ties them together as a warm accent. Pale walls in cream, warm white or soft grey give the orange girders space to glow, which makes a living room a natural home for it.

The tall, upright format follows the tracks, which gives a hallway or a narrow stretch of wall a sense of depth.

FAQ

How prominent is the figure against the bridge?

The figure is small beside the iron frame, yet the yellow ao dai is the brightest note, so the eye finds it quickly along the tracks.

Is the sky a large part of the picture?

Only patches of it show, between the crossbeams. These blue pieces with white clouds break up the orange ironwork and keep the scene open.

Are the tracks and girders drawn sharply or loosely?

Both are built from visible brushstrokes, so the rails and beams read clearly as lines leading away, while the buildings and trees in the distance stay soft.
