The story behind this artwork.

A red jacket against dark wood and brass

The glossy red jacket is the strongest note here. It has bright folds that catch the light, and above it sits a black cap. The figure is anonymous, turned toward the altar, so the eye follows the red up into the shrine.

Around the figure, the dark brown wood wall and the black cabinet with pink floral inlay hold the colour in. The brass incense burner and the brass candle stands glow gold, and the tall red candles carry small flames.

Blue and white vase, orange flowers, small details

The blue and white vase with a dragon is the cool spot in a warm picture. Tall orange flowers with green leaves rise from it, and a plate of fruit sits nearby. Behind them, panels with soft pink blossoms add a quiet pattern.

Brushwork looks loose and visible in the jacket and the wall, while the vase and the brass are drawn more tightly. Up close you can look at the floral inlay and the glow of the metal.

How the red and brown settle into a room
