The story behind this artwork.

Orange and red leaves above a grey arched gate

Trees heavy with orange, red and golden yellow leaves meet overhead and leave a gap of pale sky above the gate. It is a grey-toned gate with an arched opening and brick-red walls beside it. Red flags hang near the top, and the street beyond the arch glows with light.

Motorbikes and cars move along the road, and a few figures are near the walls. The road is covered in patches of yellow, orange, red and blue, painted in loose, visible brushstrokes that read like fallen leaves in sunlight.

Orange and brick red for a warm wall

The orange and golden yellow of the trees carry the whole picture, with brick red in the walls and flags to deepen it. Against a cream, white or soft grey wall, these colours stand out clearly.

It suits a living room or a dining area where you want a warm focal point. The upright format follows the line of the street and gate, so it draws the eye from the road up into the leaves.

FAQ

What kinds of traffic are in the street?

Motorbikes and cars share the road. The cars are dark and pale, and the motorbikes are painted small with figures on them, so they read as everyday movement toward the gate.

How is the light painted?

Light falls through the gap in the leaves and glows pale yellow around the gate and the sky. Patches of light on the road repeat it, so the sunny areas are easy to follow along the street.

Are the fallen leaves on the road clear shapes?

They are loose patches of yellow, orange, red and some blue rather than single leaves. Seen from a distance they merge into a bright, dappled road.

Do the red flags stand out?

They are small accents near the gate, set among the orange leaves. They echo the brick red of the walls without taking over the scene.
