The archival canvas print shows the same image, printed rather than painted, so its surface is flat. Both versions come rolled, on a wooden stretcher, or framed.

Three sarus cranes share the middle of the canvas. The left bird stands upright facing right, the right bird faces left, and the central one bends its long neck down to touch the water. Their bodies are grey, their heads red, and their legs a muted pink.
Reeds and grasses crowd the left and right edges, with floating leaves in the lower foreground. Two small, faint bird shapes can just be seen in the mist behind, which gives the scene depth.
The oil is laid on in short, thick strokes. Cream highlights sit on the clouds and on the water, where the sky is mirrored in a pale band behind the central crane. Reflections of the red heads and pink legs show as small broken marks below each bird.
The palette stays quiet: pearl grey, sage green, soft pink and touches of yellow near the low sun. The trees along the horizon fade into haze, so the red heads are the strongest colour in the picture.
The portrait format lets the sky take the upper half and the water the lower half, with the cranes between them. Its low contrast and cool greys suit quiet rooms such as bedrooms, where a restful picture works better than a bold one. Pale walls let the grey and sage tones breathe, and the red heads give a small focal accent.
The central sarus crane bends its long neck down so its beak touches the water. Its reflection, with a small red mark for the head, shows just below it.
The red heads of the three cranes are the strongest colour. Everything else is soft grey, sage green and pale pink, so the eye goes straight to the birds.
Yes, two tiny faint bird-like shapes sit in the mist in the middle distance, behind the reeds. They are only lightly suggested.
Yes. The low contrast greys, sage and blush pink sit comfortably on cream, white or light grey walls, and the tall format suits a narrow wall.
