The archival canvas print shows the same image, printed rather than painted, so its surface is flat. Both versions come rolled, on a wooden stretcher, or framed.

The upper half belongs to the bougainvillea: dense clusters of magenta blooms hang from a dark, twisting trunk and spread over the yellow plaster wall behind. Sunlight falls across the wall and throws soft shadows onto it, so the yellow reads warm rather than flat.
Dark wooden shutters and a small green shrub in a pot break up the yellow and give the eye somewhere quiet to rest between the pink and the street.
Below the wall, a few figures work among their goods. One wears a blue jacket and a blue helmet, another a conical hat, and baskets and bundles sit beside them. Heaps of yellow flowers lie on white paper on the ground, next to piles of green vegetables.
The yellow of the flowers repeats the wall above, and the green of the vegetables picks up the leaves in the tree, so the whole scene holds together. The brushstrokes stay loose and visible, especially in the blooms.
The strong magenta and golden yellow need calm surroundings. A white, cream or soft grey wall lets them carry the room without competing with the green and the dark shutters.
The tall, upright format follows the tree, so it fits a narrow wall or the space beside a door.
The bougainvillea fills the upper half with dense magenta clusters. Below it, the yellow flowers on the ground form a second, smaller mass of colour, so the pink and yellow answer each other.
No. The figures are painted in broad strokes and small in the scene. Hats, a helmet and a face mask hide or turn away several faces, so you notice clothing and gesture, not features.
No. The yellow shifts in tone, with darker shadow shapes cast across the plaster, which gives the wall depth and a sense of strong sun.
Mostly yes. Green appears in the leaves, a potted shrub and the vegetables on the ground, in smaller amounts that balance the magenta and yellow without competing.
