The story behind this artwork.

Pink blossoms above wide sage green leaves

Several pink lotus blossoms open among broad, round leaves, and a few closed buds stand on tall stems nearby. The leaves are sage green with soft grey and tan edges, and small water droplets sit on their surfaces. A seed pod rises among them.

Brushstrokes are loose and visible, so the petals read as soft planes of pink with paler centres rather than sharp outlines.

Pale grey-blue water that holds the reflections

The water is calm and light, a pale grey-blue with creamy patches. Blurred pink shapes of the blossoms and buds reflect in it, and more leaves float on the surface. The light feels even and gentle, with no hard shadows.

Soft pink and sage green for a calm wall

The sage green and pale grey-blue sit comfortably on warm white, cream or soft grey walls, where the pink blossoms become the single warm note. It suits a bedroom or a quiet living room, where the muted palette and the square format keep the mood restful.

FAQ

Are there water droplets on the lotus leaves?

Yes. Small bright droplets dot the surface of the broad green leaves, catching the light and adding fine highlights against the sage green.

Do the lotus buds appear open or closed?

Both appear. Some blossoms are fully open with pale centres, while other buds stay closed and pointed on slender stems, giving the scene different stages of growth.

Is the water in the painting clear or reflective?

It is reflective. The pale water carries soft, blurred pink shapes of the flowers and buds, so the lower part of the picture echoes the blooms above.

Does the pink look strong or soft?

Soft. The petals run from pale pink to cream near the centre, and they sit against muted greens rather than bright ones.
