The archival canvas print shows the same image, printed rather than painted, so its surface is flat. Both versions come rolled, on a wooden stretcher, or framed.

This feng shui koi scene is built as a slow circle. Eight fish in orange, scarlet and amber follow one another around the canvas, heads toward the middle, while a single black koi with a glossy back curves in at the lower right.
Above them, at the upper right, two pink lotus flowers open on thin stems, with a closed bud beside them. Round green lily pads float across the top, and some of their stems drop down into the water.
The water is painted in dark green and teal, with curved strokes that follow the circle of fish and show as ripples around the heads. At the upper left the surface turns amber and gold, as if low light were catching the waves.
The koi are the warmest notes on the canvas. Their scales are marked out in small overlapping touches of orange, yellow and red, and the fins are pale and translucent against the green.
The eye travels round the ring and keeps coming back to the black koi, the only cool, dark shape among the warm ones. The lotus at the top gives the swirl a clear upper edge, so the vertical format reads from the flowers down to the fish.
The deep green ground suits walls in pale neutrals, cream or soft grey, where the orange and gold of the fish become the focus. The portrait format fits a narrow wall or a space between windows, and the quiet, circling movement suits rooms meant for rest, such as a bedroom, a study or a dining room.
The black koi swims at the lower right of the ring, curving inward with its head toward the centre. It is the only dark fish among the eight orange, red and golden ones.
Both open flowers are pink with deeper rose centres and orange stamens. They sit at the upper right, with a closed bud beside them and green lily pads around.
Amber and gold light runs across the water at the upper left, in broad horizontal strokes. The rest of the surface stays dark green, so the light draws the eye toward the top.
Yes. The deep green water and the orange and gold fish stand out against cream, soft grey or other pale neutrals. The tall format runs from lotus at the top to fish below.
