Silk on wooden frames in soft grey light

The scene is a workroom full of women in long ao dai, each working at a silk panel on a wooden frame. Flowers and green leaves are stitched into the pale fabric, and the frames carry the eye from one worker to the next.

Light comes from a bright window and settles over the room as a grey haze. Brushwork is loose and visible, so the figures in the background melt gently into the wall.

Pale teal and ochre among the greys

Most of the palette is soft grey, but a garment in pale teal and another in ochre yellow lift the room. The conical hats add warm cream shapes against the grey walls, and the wooden frames and stools bring in a darker brown.

What is being embroidered on the silk panels?
