The archival canvas print shows the same image, printed rather than painted, so its surface is flat. Both versions come rolled, on a wooden stretcher, or framed.

The lane is built from weathered ochre walls with brown wooden shutters, their plaster patchy and warm. Paper lanterns in orange and amber hang from the eaves and doorways, each one glowing against the shadowed wood behind it.
Magenta blossoms spill from the walls and arch over the street, their pink set against green leaves and the yellow plaster. A few figures in long dresses walk along the stone paving, small against the long perspective, and scattered petals lie on the ground. The sky at the end of the street is pale gold, and the brushstrokes are loose and visible across the walls.
The ochre and orange make this a warm picture, and it suits a wall painted cream, soft white or warm grey, where the yellow walls can glow without competing. A dining room or a living room gives the long upright street room to be read as a view down a lane.
The magenta blossoms are the strongest contrasting accent, so a cushion, rug or curtain in a muted green or deep rose will pick it up without crowding the lanterns.
They glow. The orange and amber lanterns are painted brighter than the walls around them, so they read as lit points of colour hanging along the street and by the doorways.
They are small and kept simple: a few figures in long dresses walking along the paving. They give the street a sense of scale without drawing attention from the walls and lanterns.
It is calm. The paving is mostly empty apart from a few figures and some fallen petals, and the light at the end of the lane is soft and golden.
The plaster is patchy and worn, with visible brushstrokes, and the shutters are clearly shaped but not fussy. Detail is greatest near the doors and lanterns and softens toward the end of the street.
