Why our oil paintings are different

Painted by hand.
Framed by our woodworkers.

Your oil painting is only started once you order it, and one of the collective's senior artists paints it by hand in Binh Thanh, Ho Chi Minh City.

The archival canvas print shows the same image, printed rather than painted, so its surface is flat. Both versions come rolled, on a wooden stretcher, or framed.

Painted to order
Every oil painting order goes to one of the collective's senior artists.
Frames made in-house
The collective's woodworkers make the stretchers and the frames.

About this painting

The story behind this artwork.

Red and gold threads pulled through the hoop

The red silk is the brightest thing here. It runs from the round wooden hoop down in long loose strands, with gold folded through them, and the eye follows it first. A young woman in a straw conical hat and a dark top works the needle, her head bent toward the stitching.

Around her, finished silk panels carry pink lotus flowers, green leaves and white cranes. Wooden frames and beams fill the workshop, and the loose, visible brushstrokes keep the whole scene lively without fixing every detail.

Dark blue, straw yellow and a warm red accent

The dark blue of her top and the shadowed workshop gives the red thread its strength, while straw yellow from the conical hat and the wood warms the edges. Soft pink lotus and pale cranes lighten the silk panels.

This palette suits a wall painted cream, warm grey or soft sand, in a living room or a study. The red thread works as one clear accent, and the tall, upright format fits a narrow stretch of wall or the space beside a window.

FAQ

What is embroidered on the silk panels?

The hanging panels carry pink lotus flowers with green leaves, and white cranes in flight. They are stitched in soft tones, so they stay quieter than the red thread in the hoop.

Is the woman's face clear or loosely painted?

Her profile is readable, with a calm, focused look toward the hoop. The hands and threads are painted in broader strokes, so the movement of stitching matters more than fine detail.

Does the red thread dominate the picture?

It is the strongest accent, yet it is balanced by large areas of dark blue and warm wood. The red falls in long loose strands rather than one solid block, which keeps it from feeling heavy.
