Why our oil paintings are different

Painted by hand.
Framed by our woodworkers.

Your oil painting is only started once you order it, and one of the collective's senior artists paints it by hand in Binh Thanh, Ho Chi Minh City.

The archival canvas print shows the same image, printed rather than painted, so its surface is flat. Both versions come rolled, on a wooden stretcher, or framed.

Painted to order
Every oil painting order goes to one of the collective's senior artists.
Frames made in-house
The collective's woodworkers make the stretchers and the frames.

About this painting

The story behind this artwork.

A sailing junk on green, glassy water

A wooden junk with tan sails moves across calm water, and a small rowing boat with a few figures follows close by. The water is sage green and carries soft reflections of the boats and the rocks, so the surface reads as almost still.

The brushwork is loose and visible, most of all in the hazy sky, which gives the whole scene a quiet, unhurried pace.

Grey limestone fading into pale cream mist

Tall limestone rocks rise from the water with touches of green on their sides. Further away the peaks turn soft grey-blue and dissolve into mist, so the eye is drawn back and back into the bay.

The sky holds a pale cream glow that warms the cool greens and greys without breaking the calm.

Sage green and grey-blue for a quiet wall

The cool sage green and soft grey-blue suit a bedroom or study with white, warm grey or pale sand walls, where the misty rocks can calm the room. The wide landscape format also sits well above a sofa or a low console.

FAQ

Are the rocks in the distance sharp or hazy?

They are hazy. The nearer rocks show grey stone with green touches, while the far peaks soften into grey-blue mist, which gives the scene its depth.

What are the boats on the water like?

A wooden junk with tan sails is the main boat, and a small rowing boat with figures sits near it. The figures are small and anonymous, only a hint of life on the water.

Does the water look calm or rough?

Calm. The green surface is smooth and carries soft reflections of the boats and rocks, with no waves breaking.
