The story behind this artwork.

Yellow Walls and a Clock Tower in Rain

The tower is the anchor of the scene: a round blue clock face on warm yellow walls, topped by a red tiled roof. Below it the dark arched entrance draws the eye inward, with smaller arched openings along the walls on either side.

The street is wet, and the whole building repeats itself in the ground as soft yellow and dark streaks. A few figures walk under pink and white umbrellas, and a motorbike and a grey car pass nearby. Loose, visible brushstrokes keep all of it moving.

Slate Blue Sky, Green Leaves, Yellow Stone

Cool slate blue clouds sit above the warm yellow walls, and a tree with deep green leaves and yellow touches frames the edge of the scene. The contrast is gentle: the yellow stays the strongest colour, and the blue and green cool it down.

FAQ

Can I see the reflections clearly on the ground?

Yes. The wet street carries the yellow of the walls and the dark of the arch down in soft vertical streaks, mixed with touches of pink and blue from the umbrellas and clothing.

Are the figures and vehicles painted in detail?

They are loosely painted. You can read the umbrellas, a motorbike and a grey car, but faces and small details are kept soft so the tower stays the focus.

Does the tree add much colour?

Yes, a little. Its deep green leaves carry yellow touches that echo the walls, and it gives the scene a darker edge against the pale sky.
