The story behind this artwork.

Yellow tower, red-orange blossom, wet square below

The yellow building with its clock tower and arched gateway fills the middle of the scene. A green leafy tree stands beside it, and branches with red-orange flowers reach across a blue sky with white cloud.

Below, motorbikes and figures cross the square. Their reflections run into the wet ground, where the yellow of the walls and the red-orange of the flowers break into loose, visible brushstrokes. A flower cart with bright blooms sits near the edge of the crowd.

Why the warm yellow tower calms a pale room

The warm yellow of the building and the red-orange of the flowers bring colour to a room, while the sky blue and the green tree keep it fresh. Pale walls in white, cream or soft grey give the yellow tower space to stand out, and a living room is where that glow is easiest to enjoy.

FAQ

Do the reflections on the ground copy the building?

Yes. The wet ground repeats the yellow of the tower and the red-orange of the flowers in broken, loose patches, so the lower part of the picture reads as colour more than as detail.

How busy is the square with traffic?

It is lively. Motorbikes and figures cross the square, and a crowd gathers in the distance under the market arcades. They are painted small and softly, so they add movement without pulling attention from the tower.

What are the red-orange shapes across the sky?
