The story behind this artwork.

Koi circling through pale celadon water

The water fills the whole canvas in a washed celadon green that fades to cream. Koi move across it in orange-red and white, in cream gold, and in one dark black body that stands apart from the rest.

Thin ripple rings spread around the fish, drawn with fine pale lines. The brushwork stays soft and loose, so the water reads as a calm, light surface rather than a detailed pond.

A lotus leaf and pink bud at the edge

A round green lotus leaf and a single pink lotus bud rise near the bottom of the scene. They give the cool water its only touch of rose and a deeper green, and they anchor the drifting koi.

Soft green and orange-red for a quiet room

The pale celadon green suits white, cream or warm grey walls, where the orange-red koi become the focal colour. It fits a bedroom or a study well, as the mood is gentle and the upright format gives the koi room to swim down the wall.

FAQ

Do the koi have different colours?

Yes. Some are orange-red with white patches, some are cream or gold, and one is black. The black koi is the darkest point in the scene and gives it contrast against the pale water.

How are the ripples drawn?

As fine, pale rings around the fish. They are light and delicate, so they stay quiet against the green water and do not break its calm.

Is the lotus a large part of the scene?

No. The leaf and pink bud sit at the bottom edge and take only a small share of the canvas. The koi and the open water remain the main subject.
