Flooded paddies at dusk, ripe golden terraces and misty hillsides fill these rice field paintings, along with buffalo, egrets, ducks and farmers in conical hats. The scenes reach from the Mekong Delta to Sapa and Hue, and each comes as a hand-painted oil painting or an archival canvas print.
Paddies, grain and the animals in them
Water is the subject of several paintings. In one, egrets lift over flooded paddies as a figure in a conical hat walks behind a dark water buffalo, under a peach and lilac sky, with thick impasto strokes.
Another moves in close on the grain. Rice panicles hang heavy and bowed over long olive leaves, clear drops sit on the amber grains, and a dark olive and ochre ground makes the gold glow.
From the Mekong Delta to Sapa and Hue
The delta painting sits low and wet. A herder in a conical hat wades the shallows with a stick lifted above a flock of ducks, while palms, green paddies and low roofs stand behind and amber light catches the ripples.
In the highlands, a hillside of curving terraces in olive and amber lets white mist run through its ridges, and a cluster of houses under dark roofs catches a pink and gold sky. That view is also listed in Sapa and sits well with the highland scenes of Northwest Vietnam.
For Hue, a timber bridge under a tiled roof crosses a quiet river on piers, a rowboat carrying a basket slips beneath it, and farmers in conical hats tend bright green paddies on the far side. In a tall, warm-lit picture, harvesters cut ripe rice and others carry the sheaves down a bending path past pale drying mats, with blue hills behind; the farm scenes of Countryside hold it too.
Gold, green and dusk colour on a wall
The panicle close view and the harvest terraces are gold, and that gold sits well on a pale wall. The covered bridge view and the duck herder's paddies bring green, while the buffalo and egret scene adds peach and lilac sky. Choose first by the colour you want beside your furniture, then by whether you prefer water, grain or a hillside.
