Daily life wall art of Vietnam paints street vendors, silk weavers, lantern makers, tea poured in a garden and bowls of soup, from golden Hoi An walls to Hanoi bridges and Da Lat lanes. Each scene is offered as a hand-painted oil painting or an archival canvas print.
Street vendors and old walls
In one Hoi An painting a figure in a conical hat carries baskets of orange and red flowers on a shoulder pole against a broad golden yellow wall, in loose, visible brushstrokes. Another shows vendors with round baskets along a grey kerb, where purple, green and floral clothing break up the gold of the wall. In Hanoi, a cyclo with a red fringed canopy stands on a narrow street, with bamboo poles, wooden ladders and leafy balconies behind it in ochre, green and red. Further street views hang in Street Scene.
Hands at work: silk, lacquer and lanterns
The craft paintings stay close to the work itself. In one, a woman in a grey blouse weaves at a wooden loom while dyed yarn hangs in hanks at the back of the room. Another places two women in a shelved studio, one leaning over a black and gold folding screen, the other kneeling to wipe a red table. In a Da Lat workshop, red and gold silk threads are drawn through a round wooden hoop, with panels of pink lotus and white cranes hung around. More of this kind sit in Vietnamese Crafts.
Tables, bowls and coffee
The food paintings are set at the table. Three translucent spring rolls lie on a round grey plate, with peanut sauce bowls, lime and chilli beside them. A steel phin filter sits over a glass where dark coffee drips, on a pale, worn wooden table. Coffee has its own page in Vietnamese Coffee.
Gold walls, rust girders and timber browns above your furniture
The golden yellow Hoi An walls bring a strong colour, and that gold sits well against a pale wall. The Hanoi street market under rust-orange steel girders has a pale grey sky and a round green tree, a quieter match for a neutral room. The food paintings lean on timber browns and cream, with red chilli and green herbs as accents.
